How Inera Test and Development works with digital innovation
Redpill Linpro has long been a partner of Inera Test and Development and contributes to both the development and testing of digital welfare systems.
We spoke to Magnus Lindström, CEO of Inera Test and Development, about the company’s role, the key success factors for digital innovation in the public sector, the challenges involved and how the EU’s Health Directive comes into play.
“As well as testing that all systems in use meet our high standards for operational reliability, digital innovation is a major part of our work. This is particularly true in the area of critical infrastructure, where the national service platform is a key focus area.”
The national service platform is a central hub for information sharing and information management for everyone working in the healthcare sector in Sweden.
“Another example of our work is the development of a new platform for the HSA service, which contains quality-assured data on organisations and individuals within healthcare and social care in Sweden. The aim of this platform and other systems is to ensure that all digital services contribute to productivity, streamline healthcare and free up time for staff”, Magnus Lindström.
Technical and needs-driven innovation go hand in hand
Inera Test and Development works with both technical innovation and needs-driven innovation. When it comes to technical innovation the company is constantly migrating systems and solutions from older platforms to new ones to ensure that the technology used
enables future innovation.
“Technology and needs are constantly changing, and it is important that we use technology that does not lock us in, but instead enables changes and the further development of systems,” says Magnus Lindström.&
Service innovation takes place in close dialogue with customers, such as the regions, and a shared roadmap is crucial for a successful innovation process, according to Magnus Lindström.
“If we take 1177 as an example, we can see what needs both patients and staff will have in the future.&Inera has further developed 1177 with a digital solution (1177 Direkt) that enables automation and faster assessment of medical conditions.&
A version of 1177 has also been launched that is used by healthcare staff to facilitate knowledge sharing and streamline their work.”
Another example is Inera Test and Development, which is participating as a project partner in DigitalWell Arena, an innovation programme focusing on areas such as health apps.
Like many organisations in the technology sector, securing the right talent is a key issue for Inera Test and Development. Magnus Lindström believes that one of the keys to attracting skilled staff is the opportunity to contribute to a better digital society.
“As well as our own staff, it is crucial to collaborate with external partners such as Redpill Linpro. They have experience in our sector and work extensively with open source, which is important to us,” explains Magnus Lindström.&
Rapid technological development places high demands on us to stay up to date and constantly evaluate different options.
“We must constantly keep an eye on the wider world and establish collaborations that foster learning,” says Magnus Lindström.
Cooperation is becoming increasingly important, particularly in light of the EU’s new and comprehensive European Health Data Directive (EHDS). The directive, which focuses on the use of health data within the EU, will place significant demands on the handling of personal data, for example to enable the sharing of medical records between Member States.&
Magnus Lindström believes that Sweden has an advantage, as we are already able to share most of this information between healthcare providers in Sweden at a national level.
“Although there will be many challenges in creating data-sharing processes that are both secure and smart, the directive will play a very important role in further innovation in the health sector. Just imagine being able to utilise the vast amount of existing health data when developing new healthcare systems.”&
He sees Sweden as a potential leader in developing smart digital innovations that lay the foundations for better healthcare and free up time for healthcare staff.
To achieve success in digital innovation, Magnus Lindström summarises three key factors:
- Focus on the goal and user value. All innovation involves challenges and problems, but by having a clear vision and always focusing on the end user, we can develop a better digital society.
- Be curious and keep an eye on developments in the wider world. There is a huge amount of innovation taking place around the world that is solving various challenges in healthcare. Keep an eye on developments and see how you can benefit from these innovations on your journey.
- Increase collaboration between different stakeholders. We must ensure that we make the best possible use of our collective expertise and data. This means, amongst other things, that we need to promote collaboration between large, established healthcare organisations and start-up tech companies.
