From M365 to Nextcloud

Explore a gradual path from Microsoft 365 to an open source digital workplace - while keeping the tools your organisation still needs during the transition.

Why organisations are reconsidering Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 has become central to how many organisations work. But growing requirements around data control, privacy, digital sovereignty and vendor dependency are leading more organisations to explore alternatives.

We deliver Nextcloud as a fully managed SaaS solution, hosted within the EU/EEA, with a focus on availability, data sovereignty, and performance. It’s a safe alternative to American cloud services.

Moving towards Nextcloud doesn't have to mean replacing everything at once. It can start with the areas where greater control matters most, while existing Microsoft services remain in place where they are still needed.

Move at your own pace

Microsoft 365 and Nextcloud can work side by side

Moving to Nextcloud doesn't have to happen overnight. A gradual migration allows you to introduce Nextcloud step by step while keeping selected Microsoft 365 services in place during the transition.

You might begin with file storage and sharing, a specific department or a defined use case. From there, the environment can evolve as users become familiar with the new platform and your organisation is ready to move more services.

This reduces disruption, gives users time to adapt and lets your organisation stay in control of the transition.

Assess your environment → Migrate gradually → Expand when ready

A migration built around your organisation

From planning to ongoing support

Every Microsoft 365 environment is different. We start by understanding your users, data, integrations and requirements before defining a migration path that fits your organisation.

Redpill Linpro can support the journey from assessment and Proof of Concept to migration, integration, hosting and ongoing support – whether you move selected services or gradually transition more of your digital workplace.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At its core, Nextcloud provides secure file storage, synchronisation and sharing across web, desktop and mobile devices. From there, the platform can be expanded with additional collaboration and productivity capabilities.

Nextcloud can extend into document collaboration, email, calendars and contacts, as well as chat, audio and video calls, webinars and screen sharing through Nextcloud Talk. Its modular structure also supports apps and integrations, allowing the environment to evolve with your organisation's needs.

The platform can also be extended through apps and integrations, so organisations can choose the capabilities they need rather than adopting a fixed suite from one vendor. Nextcloud itself describes this modular approach as supporting different integrations and deployment scenarios.

Yes. Nextcloud's supported online office solutions can work with common Microsoft Office formats including DOCX, XLSX and PPTX, allowing users to view and collaboratively edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations directly in the browser.

This means moving files to Nextcloud doesn't necessarily mean changing the file formats your organisation, customers or partners already use. The exact office setup can be selected based on your requirements and existing environment.

Yes. Nextcloud is designed to work within existing enterprise environments rather than requiring everything around it to be replaced.

It supports integration with LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory, allowing existing directory users to authenticate with their existing credentials. External identity providers can also be connected through OpenID Connect.

No. A migration can be phased according to your organisation's priorities, users and services.

Nextcloud explicitly supports migration scenarios where Microsoft 365 and Nextcloud operate in parallel during the transition, including phased or hybrid migrations by department or product. Microsoft services such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and Exchange can therefore be assessed individually rather than treating Microsoft 365 as one system that must be replaced at once.

The total cost depends on factors such as the number of users, hosting model, configuration, integrations, support and the requirements of your organisation.

Redpill Linpro's Digital Workplace offering is designed for organisations with a minimum of 25 users. For organisations that want to evaluate Nextcloud before a wider implementation, we also offer a Proof of Concept with a configured SaaS environment and support throughout the evaluation.

Our current Proof of Concept packages are available for 25, 50 and 100 users, with different levels of included support.
